As a Opera fanboy I owe myself to spread the good news that Opera finally open their windows to integrate an extension in their browser (similar to add on in firefox). Yea I know, we didn’t have it before. We just rely on so called widget that supposed to replace add on. It’s a useless feature though.
All this years Opera just rely on its built in features. That’s what make Opera kinda special. There’s no 3′rd party apps allowed to discriminate its stability. It might sounds goody at first, but soon you realized you left too much far behind. It’s a rat race after all. Buckle up Opera dev team! You’ve lot of work to do.
Anyway Opera 11 still in alpha stages and don’t expect much from current extensions library. It still new. Give em some time. Hit the download link if you would like to know how it perfoms. Only Opera 11 supports extensions. It won’t work on older versions.
With the Opera 11 alpha, you can personalize your browser with all your pet features and functionality. From now on, it is you who defines the best experience with the Opera browser.
Our focus when building an extension mechanism has been to enable closer integration with web pages and web applications, and we look forward to see what the creative developer community will come up with.
Opera 11 alpha marks the beginning of the extensions mechanism in Opera. Before Opera 11 goes final we plan to include auto update for the extensions and a few other nice features to expand the functionality exposed to developers.
