Celcom Broadband Review

celcom-broadband-logo-small.jpgWell this is the 5th day I’ve been using Celcom Broadband. So far so good. Though it would be a good idea to make some review about it.

I’ve registered with Celcom on monday at Celcom Tower. The registration process is quite simple and surprisingly I can get connected in the night of the registration day. Quite fast eh?

I go for D68 package and the monthly charged is RM68. Speed for D68 package is capped at 384kbps. It’s good enough for normal surf. If you want a better speed you can opt for D98 package though, RM98 monthly. D98 will enjoy speed up to 3.6mbps. :hehe:

I’m using Sierra Wireless Aircard 875U to get connected. You can get this usb modem around RM700-900. Try find it on lelong.com.my or lowyat.

This is how it looks when its been attached to my Dell Vostro.

About downloading speed, can’t say much about it. But here’s one tip you should follow, try to download everything using Flashget and Flashgot (Firefox add-on) or any download manager to get the highest speed possible.

Mostly you can get download speed around 15-35kb when downloading from international server.

I’m taking this screenshot while downloading Adobe Photoshop update using Flashget from Adobe server.

flashget-screenshot-for-celcom-broadband-review.jpg

Here’s another couple speed test from local server.

Measure the download speed using Speedtest.net For your information this test has been taken from Seksyen 7, Shah Alam. I’m at my brother house. I’ll try and put the result from Setapak when I get back to hostel. :-)

This is the result from Cyberjaya server

and this is from Kuala Lumpur server

I didn’t put Torrent download speed though. Cause its always fluctuate and it depends 100% on peers location. If you can get connected to local peers your download speed should be okay and if you not, the speed would be linger around 1-3kb. :-p

Cons
rapidshare_celcom.jpg

Because all Celcom Broadband users were sharing certain IP, chances to download something from Rapidshare is kind of hard. But I’ve heard the speed are bad anyway. So don’t bother. Search for other alternative or get a premium account instead. :-)

That’s all for now. I’ll keep this post updated when new speed test available from other location.

C’mon join our discussion about Celcom broadband at forum.izzatz.com/

Nope. You will not get that 3.6Mbps. Im using D98 package in UTM Skudai which under HSDPA network. Top speed that I even get is 1.8Mbps. It is half from the speed they promised. But sometime the speed is lower than 20kbps. Usually happen at night between 10pm – 1am. But the speed is amazing in the morning and back to normal speed usually around 700kbps to 1Mbps.

I have sent a report to Celcom regarding the slowness connection here at UTM. And they have came to my college to test the speed test. I know about it after I got a phone call by a woman from Celcom KL. She said that their technician has made speed test and they got 1.2Mbps. I laughed when she said that. They know that they will not get the 3.6Mpbs speed but why they should promote the 3.6Mbps package. Better change the 3.6Mpbs to 1.2Mbps instead. Duh…

I’m from Kelana Jaya and im using d98. I got extremely nice speed on the first day at around 170~262kBps the highest i’ve seen. But starting from the next day, I have a fluctuated speed of between 10~300kbps, sometimes 500kbps…

I must be dreaming on the first day T_T

Ic Tikam Batu eh, I’m from Butterworth by the way. Around 45 minutes drive to go to Tikam Batu.

Forget about Maxis, Celcom had a better coverage.

Hmmm bout taking care d modem, just make sure you properly disconnect it before unplug the modem. From my experiences, my friends just cabut the modem without disconnect it and his modem already kaput twice. Luckily he tied to a contract so he can go to Maxis Center and request a new one. :-p

Hello, the status of connection showed me 7.2Mbps.. and the network is HSDPA. Is that the maximum it can go? sometimes it changes to UMTS. does Tikam Batu got High Speed connection??

  • http://www.izzatz.com/ Izzatz

It doesnt matter if it showed 7.2mbps. It just from the default E220 dialer. Celcom doesnt support 7.2mbps yet.

Anyway if you wanna find out whether your location had HSDPA coverage or not, try and call their customer services to confirm. :-)

And regarding your network always switching from UMTS/3G HSDPA, FYI its perfectly normal. Not a big deal.

alan: I can’t say much bout the speed that you were gettin. It all depends on concurrent user at your place. Some place maxis are better than celcom and some are not. The best way to find out is borrow your friends celcom sim card to test it out.

ali: celcom didn’t have that problem. It would work just fine on 32th floor.

    Hello aini,

E220 modem will installed the driver automatically once you plugged in the modem. As far as I’m concern the driver works fine in MS Vista.

Is there a probability that your MS Vista is corrupted? Do try on your friends laptop whether its working or not.
