Well this is the 5th day I’ve been using Celcom Broadband. So far so good. Though it would be a good idea to make some review about it.
I’ve registered with Celcom on monday at Celcom Tower. The registration process is quite simple and surprisingly I can get connected in the night of the registration day. Quite fast eh?
I go for D68 package and the monthly charged is RM68. Speed for D68 package is capped at 384kbps. It’s good enough for normal surf. If you want a better speed you can opt for D98 package though, RM98 monthly. D98 will enjoy speed up to 3.6mbps. :hehe:
I’m using Sierra Wireless Aircard 875U to get connected. You can get this usb modem around RM700-900. Try find it on lelong.com.my or lowyat.
This is how it looks when its been attached to my Dell Vostro.

About downloading speed, can’t say much about it. But here’s one tip you should follow, try to download everything using Flashget and Flashgot (Firefox add-on) or any download manager to get the highest speed possible.
Mostly you can get download speed around 15-35kb when downloading from international server.
I’m taking this screenshot while downloading Adobe Photoshop update using Flashget from Adobe server.

Here’s another couple speed test from local server.
Measure the download speed using Speedtest.net For your information this test has been taken from Seksyen 7, Shah Alam. I’m at my brother house. I’ll try and put the result from Setapak when I get back to hostel.
This is the result from Cyberjaya server

and this is from Kuala Lumpur server

I didn’t put Torrent download speed though. Cause its always fluctuate and it depends 100% on peers location. If you can get connected to local peers your download speed should be okay and if you not, the speed would be linger around 1-3kb.
Cons

Because all Celcom Broadband users were sharing certain IP, chances to download something from Rapidshare is kind of hard. But I’ve heard the speed are bad anyway. So don’t bother. Search for other alternative or get a premium account instead.
That’s all for now. I’ll keep this post updated when new speed test available from other location.
C’mon join our discussion about Celcom broadband at forum.izzatz.com/

celcome broadband sucks at kota bharu kelantan .Download file 4kb….Damnnn.
To Adzman: Sorry I’m not aware of it, and I’m quite sure there’s nothing to loose not knowing it, btw why u ask?
actually, im fadup already with the celcom broadband service!!! they shouldn’t call it broadband, it just like 56k modem performance LOL. i can’t feel that i’m using broadband service at all. but its quite okay when usit on mobile phone, opera mini and other mobile apps.
btw i think we can setup at the hardware properties by unchecking “allow windows to turn off this device to save power”…. something like that, to avoid sudden disconnection.
i think i wana switch to myr98 hsdpa plan, is it worthy??? worry if it will also sucks like myr68 plan. duh
I’m with you makubex! Haha this is narrowband!
Last nite I can’t connect at all. Had to surf on my mobile phone with opera mini. That sux man not to say only can get a GPRS speed. I’ve paid for 3G speed! not 2G!
Let us know the situation when you upgrade to a D98 man. Some people said D98 sim will enjoy a much better network as Celcom are separating the network tower between D68.
I just subcribed to Celcom RM98 last week. I bought the BandLuxe modem (supported to 7.2 mbps). However, I know i should get the Huawei white color portable modem right? Which is better? Anyone can help?
to bebesiang: I think in term of price and performance, its huawei (unofficial one). but u might get better speed with device which has direct connection to your usb, i mean without cable one (like usb storage device la). hm… have u usha sonyericsson usb 3g modem(s)?
look cool
I’ve tried playing WOW with the CELCOM Broadband. there’s like around 0.75 second lag. sometimes it’s worse, especially during primetime (8.00-12.00). the line never disconnect you. but there’s sometimes an idle, which is your download speed are 0 for a little. i believe we were connected to the CELCOM server and the CELCOM server are connected to the Streamyx line. i believe the idle happen when the CELCOM server are disconnected from the streamyx line, but the server automatically reconnect. i believe CELCOM disconnect as much as Streamyx did, the different is, you were saved from the hassle of redialing.
Hi I’m just a novice user to this Internet thing and I subscribed to Celcom broadband RM98 a few months now. The speed so far ok la.. not that fast but I’m getting HSDPA coverage most of the time..Just currently trying to download some torrents files..I’m using Bitcomet as the client..but it stated that my port stated is blocked.I can download but in slow speed..then I considering to try uTorrent..when i tried to do the speeding steps..the port is also block..so..what should I do to unblock it? Is there any other alternatives for me? I’ve checked in google..and come across NAT..and port forwarding..what is port forwarding? do I need to do this? isn’t it meant for router? I’m bit confused I’m using USB Huawei modem though..
Eida, eventhough it stated that its blocked but it still downloading the file in slow speed. There is nothing we can do about it as Celcom are shaping the torrent network. One thing you could do though is try to randomize your connection port.
Regarding the port forwarding, yes you right. Its meant for router. You don’t have to do anything if you connect your usb modem straight to your laptop/computer.
If you have any other question just ask, I’ll try to help.
To Fadly, how could you stand playing an online games using celcom broadband? Always disconnected la. Tension2x.
I just bought celcom broadband abaout a month
a go. But I’m so frustating about the surf speed
and the download speed. I’ts really2 slow my download speed araud 15kb – 500bytes. What the hell is this?????? I bought the 98 package that said maximum speed that we can is 3.6mb. I can believe it, i’m feel being cheated. I’m leaving in Taman Bukit Angkasa, Pantai Dalam. The speed is helly Suck!!!!!!! Can Someone tell me what should i do????? Please help me…..
rosman,
Literally you can do nothing about it. You only can complaint to the support staff and keep on pushing them about your difficulties.
For now I suggest you downgrade to D68 @ RM68 per month. Why subscribe D98 when they can’t fulfill the promising speed.
I’m thinking of subscribing to celcom usb broadband. I want to use it for msn IM chatting, not downloading. If I take the RM68, is it good enough? Or do I need to go for RM98?
With current situation I think its the best choice if you choose RM68 package.
I subscribed to Celcom Broadband since March, along with my CEP50. So far, OK. At times my vista task manager report max speed more than 700kbps, way more than the subscribed 384kbps. Sometimes don’t get the 3G coverage and had to settle on slower email download at 5kBps. Use Nokia 6120c as phone/modem.
If we complain not getting the subscribed speed, please try to understand the nature of networking first.
The link between our PC to ISP (celcom bb, maxis bb, streamyx, izzi and so on) is NOT the only link that connect our PC and the server we are downloading from! there are more links, can be hundreds or thousands, and how congested they are. at the time.
As with most broadband, the speed rate is “best effort” or maximum. Not the minimum. Plus, it is shared resource. The premium internet connection should be the direct connection to ISP such as TMNet Direct, you have dedicated line to TMNet backbone. But then the link to the server is still shared resource.
To get maximum transfer speed from the server, bring the PC to the server and connect directly. what’s the cost..
I’m using myr68 monthly package with my sonyericsson k800 as modem, can connect but i see the connection can’t received?
for the time being this celcom 3g is unusable neh….damn again…forever..
YOW, if you not received any bytes try reconnect your connection.
Keep on doing it if the problem still persist. This is Sialcom.
hi izzat,
my father has subscribed celcom broadband rm68 per month last two weeks ago. Yesterday (Saturday, 15 November) and today (Sunday, 16 November) the celcom internet is down. Im using Firefox and it written like this:
“Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.”
why it happen like this? sometime when i reload the page, it can be used but sometime it can’t. When i used Internet Explorer, it wrote, Cannot find server. Are the celcom internet are down right now?? please help me…
Hi Ray,
You have to bear with Celcom speed for now. What I’ve seen in a forum lots of user are complaining recent speed. It totally sucks.
I guess they are on maintenance mode again.
heyl0w izzat ..
i had a same problem with Ray at 6 am – 12 am after 12 am i can use celcom BB smoothly omg T.T i know i cant get HSDPA here … but at the first day i subscribed it celcom work so fine for me .. i’m hv subscribed it at last tuesday ..
Thanks a lot izzat. Today, Monday 17 November 2008, the celcom internet going to normal again! I think the maintenance had finished now.
this time i want to tell u guys how to avoid your money from being swindled by this monopoly telco swindler. first by using prepaid or daily unlimited (RM6/24hrs) in case u don’t really use it much. if u works at office that have internet connection, just use your internet office. u also can subscribe low cost streamyx at home from RM20. Then if u r really a heavy user, yet u don’t have streamyx/wired telephone line at home nor u internet at office too, so it can’t be helped, just subscribe the RM68 package WITHOUT CONTRACT!!! yes, i really mean without u doing any contract with celcom. so that means u don’t hafta avoid the package with the plus of installment fees for the modem. if u r not smart enough u just can buy the modem with CASH from celcom. otherwise, buy it from hardware shops. but remember never subscribe the package that comes with contract. soon or later, there’s time that u will totally fadup with the service of this telco swindler corp. so if u already made contract with them, u canot end or break that contract easily, u still need to pay so like compound money to them, and again, u are ripped. i strongly suggest to those who desperate to use 3g ((of course that “broadband” term is the method of this corp to swindle ppl because its hardly to say that this is a broadband duh)) just get the RM68 monthly package and buy a 3g/hsdpa phone to use as modem. u also can browse internet via phone then. if once u feel that the service is worthless, just terminate ur account.
aku tak puas hati la dengan celcom ni… slow sangat la…. slow kau tak brape kesah sgt… yg aku kesah dari 15 november tu takde respon lagsug… nak surf pun tak leh… connection ade… bile aku tepon org celcom je cakap UPGRADING service… ari ni nasib baik ok sikit… asalkan boleh login dah la dengan surf website ok la… tapi memag slow mengalah kan dial la… sirius aku cakap… klau ikut term and condition celcom kita ni pengguna di diskriminasi.. sepatut nye kerajaan buat sesuatu tentang masalah ni… menteri yang berkuasa patut selesaikn masalah ni bagi internet service laju… ni tak makan rasuah celcom bagi… terus tak bagkit kn masalah ni… yang gune celcom broad band ni mcm aku bukan org kaya… nak jugak bagi poor service ..klau report kat tribunal pengguna entah die buat keje ke x.. aku pun tak tahu la… klau ikut term tu die bagi speed 384kbps contract 18 bulan.. ok la… tapi die tak bg pun speed 384kbps mcm ne kita nak stuju pulak dengan contract 18 bulan tu… sepatut nye leh report dan saman je celcom kaki tipu ni… kalau speed 384 kbps slame 18 bulan betol la ikut term tapi 18 kbps slame 18 bulan tak ikut term langsug..diorg yg laggar term dulu… takkan asek penggune je kena diskriminasi.. kita mesti bersatu menentag corrupt celcom ni.. donwload je data corrupt..nak gune streamyx pulak lagi teruk… sebab dah penah gune streamyx tu la yg tahu streamyx terok.gune celcom pun same.. maxis je tak gune lagi… tapi aku tengok maxis ni mcm same je..mane la broadband yg leh dipercayai….aku tak kesah kalau aku gune lebih dari 5 GB sebulan diorg kurang kan speed dari 384 kbps kepada 200 kbps… tapi masalah nye 200 kbps pun payah nak dpt…
my office is at basement, but we can receive signal from maxis and celcom so can get hand phone calls. Do you think celcom bb will work at the basement?Do they have any trial period? What if I buy the modem and then I cannot use in office at all?
celcomdebest, i agree with your opinion. Kita patut stand up and unite against celcom! damn it
Ann, do you have celcom prepaid? If yes you can try the RM8 per day. See how it goes.
If you don’t, maybe you can try find some friends who had a celcom broadband sim and borrow it from them and test it out at your place.
Is the celcom broadband service down again now?
I tried to call them several times, but their serivice carelines are down too.
What am I paying for? RM98 per month for downtimes???
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!
I just managed to call them, and they said they are upgrading the system. And they mentioned to me that from next year onwards, they will be using a new and faster system. They told me this disturbance is just temporary.
If we feel that the broadband is too bad, just switch back to dial-up and see what we can get.
@ 25cents/min, 60min/hr, 24hr/day, 30day/mo pay up to this: RM1080.00 max 7.7GB.
even say 2hrs/day every day, still the broadband cheaper.
If want maximum performance, go for direct internet connection. prepare some RM30,000 per year for 256k say between KL and Shah Alam.
Well, not too bad for me.
hahaha if i agreed with you mas =) these wireless broadband is better then the dial-up cuz i use it b4 ..
rEz,
I was also dependent on dialup before, thinking not using internet much then. Most internetting while at work. When have to do work outside office, then the need for internet goes up.
Some hotels charge RM36 for 24hrs. lucky if get free wifi.
Then use pay-per-use internet connection using handphone. For short session or small amount of data, no big deal. Once transfer 500k file, know the charge is RM5. Require transfer lots amount of data, immediately realize better take the unlimited. now feel rather free. 5GB limit is way above my need.
Use wisely, these broadbands are real bargain. Want to be a hog, even the RM300,000/year direct link cannot help
Ann, do you have celcom prepaid? If yes you can try the RM8 per day. See how it goes.
Izzat, its RM6 actually, if im not aware….
BTW this celcom bb is really sucks! I own rapidshare premium account, and the speed I can get around is 14kbps to 2kbps downloading WHAT THE HECK!!!!!
Celcomdebest ko boleh buat report ke tribunal, diorang memang buat kerja, tapi kene bayar RM5 la. Dan ko kena nyatakan tuntutan apa yang ko mau, contoh nak batalkan kontrak tanpa perlu bayar ke ataupun kalau ko dah lama guna tapi macam soyal service diorang ko bleh buat tuntutan mintak balik duit, tapi asas mesti kena kukuh la. contohnya RM68/bulan unlimited kan, tapi time kita nak guna je tak boleh. sepatutnya celcom kena reduce the bill deducting the faulty days. kalau diorang tak setuju ataupun main tarik tali je then buatlah report.
yeah makubex, thats what I just heard too. They have reduced it too RM6. Well it doesn’t meant a thang if they kept providing poor services.
RM6 per day…
Good for occasional. If have to get connection 11 days that month, that’s 66. add another RM2, have it for whole month. now outstation, need connection almost everyday, RM68 is okaylah.
Bad connection sometimes. Really disturbing however. Already disconnected at this time of writing. will connect back.
What other options do we have. Pay-per-use again? Oh not again for sending 5mb files.
Donno is this my pc to phone or what. phone still display connection but globe at the pc network connection is gone. Running Vista.
if i use celcom bb d98 package, can i play online games like dota on garena
my wife subscribe to Celcom Broadband.
i cant believe their service.
its downright “pure bull****”
u can call their so call helpline.
Man,its no help at all.
i will never ever recommend to anyone to ever
use celcom broadband.
we are stuck with the modem @rm499.00 wat to do
we feel that we hav been cheated by celcom advertisment.
Just want to know whether i can receive broadband signal from 21st floor of my house, i am staying in apartment?either maxis or celcom
thank you
Ben, maxis obviously put their 3g substation on top of building/tower. Their got one on top of my office building. Its not like I’m answering ur question though, but just a hint.
JackBO, u should read my previous comments before subscribing to any of this telco-swindler’s package or promo. To buy a modem along with this package wasn’t a good idea at all, indeed, ud better afford a 3g phone from nokia@sonyE from RM350+. I bought my se k530i with only RM430. Can use it as modem as well as usit to browse web/check/pay bills via operamini.
don’t get too affected in any way bro
ueki_99, u can play dota.
mas_cocok. as long as u don’t use torrent or download anything, u’ll be “okaylah” with this service.
and I think RM6/day is still not okay. I suggest RM2/24hours.
Seen using the service for a few months.
My comment, it is TERRIBLE… , NOT reliable and SLOW
Location Shah Alam..
Good thing that i did’t buy any modem for Celcom.. just use a HSDPA handphne..
Ive made up my mind, Am changing to Izzinet very soon….
I wonder why the celcom internet is really slow.
My location is Politeknik Mukah, only covered by 3G line but the internet line is to suck.
My modem is Vodafone E272. max speed 7.2mbps hdspa/huspa
Mr. Al-hasan, hopefully that izzinet will satisfy ur need, though my mind doubt it.
Here my latest celcom bb 68 speedtest:
Download Speed: 123 kbps (15.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 100 kbps (12.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Location: Tanjung Gelang (No HSDPA, 3G only)
Connectivity: Sony Ericsson C702 as modem via bluetooth on HP TX2520au tablet pc (Vista Ultimate). P/s: use the phone as remote control/pointer as well.
Video streaming is lagging about every 15 sec, about 5 sec stop (while loading further frames) before continue playing.
celcom the best
celcom is the best, in term of broadband service in Malaysia, as for now. But they are good at swindling ppl too, just don’t get too amazed, remember the woman holding a huawei usb modem and laptop on celcom bb ads, she smiles, cynically….
Huhu…. anyway, wimax is the best.
This is the 5th day i am using the maxis bb at RM98, 1st year fee for maxis postpaid. I am staying in a condo 21st floor, this i the reading i got from the speed tester at 0935am today.
Download- 909kb/s
upload- 328kb/s
connecting using UMTS
by the way this is around puchong bt. 13 1/2
this sounds good to me.
but highway is totally loosing out, connecting with GPRS only, even a google page waits like crazy.
agree with kira-san, but we canot count on baka-tmnet monopolist…
