Celcom Broadband Review

advertisement.gif

celcom-broadband-logo-small.jpgWell this is the 5th day I’ve been using Celcom Broadband. So far so good. Though it would be a good idea to make some review about it.

I’ve registered with Celcom on monday at Celcom Tower. The registration process is quite simple and surprisingly I can get connected in the night of the registration day. Quite fast eh?

I go for D68 package and the monthly charged is RM68. Speed for D68 package is capped at 384kbps. It’s good enough for normal surf. If you want a better speed you can opt for D98 package though, RM98 monthly. D98 will enjoy speed up to 3.6mbps. :hehe:

I’m using Sierra Wireless Aircard 875U to get connected. You can get this usb modem around RM700-900. Try find it on lelong.com.my or lowyat.

This is how it looks when its been attached to my Dell Vostro.

About downloading speed, can’t say much about it. But here’s one tip you should follow, try to download everything using Flashget and Flashgot (Firefox add-on) or any download manager to get the highest speed possible.

Mostly you can get download speed around 15-35kb when downloading from international server.

I’m taking this screenshot while downloading Adobe Photoshop update using Flashget from Adobe server.

flashget-screenshot-for-celcom-broadband-review.jpg

Here’s another couple speed test from local server.

Measure the download speed using Speedtest.net For your information this test has been taken from Seksyen 7, Shah Alam. I’m at my brother house. I’ll try and put the result from Setapak when I get back to hostel. :-)

This is the result from Cyberjaya server

and this is from Kuala Lumpur server

I didn’t put Torrent download speed though. Cause its always fluctuate and it depends 100% on peers location. If you can get connected to local peers your download speed should be okay and if you not, the speed would be linger around 1-3kb. :-p

Cons
rapidshare_celcom.jpg

Because all Celcom Broadband users were sharing certain IP, chances to download something from Rapidshare is kind of hard. But I’ve heard the speed are bad anyway. So don’t bother. Search for other alternative or get a premium account instead. :-)

That’s all for now. I’ll keep this post updated when new speed test available from other location.

C’mon join our discussion about Celcom broadband at forum.izzatz.com/

I just managed to call them, and they said they are upgrading the system. And they mentioned to me that from next year onwards, they will be using a new and faster system. They told me this disturbance is just temporary.

If we feel that the broadband is too bad, just switch back to dial-up and see what we can get.

    @ 25cents/min, 60min/hr, 24hr/day, 30day/mo pay up to this: RM1080.00 max 7.7GB.

even say 2hrs/day every day, still the broadband cheaper.

If want maximum performance, go for direct internet connection. prepare some RM30,000 per year for 256k say between KL and Shah Alam.

Well, not too bad for me.

    rEz,

I was also dependent on dialup before, thinking not using internet much then. Most internetting while at work. When have to do work outside office, then the need for internet goes up.
Some hotels charge RM36 for 24hrs. lucky if get free wifi.

Then use pay-per-use internet connection using handphone. For short session or small amount of data, no big deal. Once transfer 500k file, know the charge is RM5. Require transfer lots amount of data, immediately realize better take the unlimited. now feel rather free. 5GB limit is way above my need.

Use wisely, these broadbands are real bargain. Want to be a hog, even the RM300,000/year direct link cannot help :-)

Ann, do you have celcom prepaid? If yes you can try the RM8 per day. See how it goes.

Izzat, its RM6 actually, if im not aware….

BTW this celcom bb is really sucks! I own rapidshare premium account, and the speed I can get around is 14kbps to 2kbps downloading WHAT THE HECK!!!!!

Celcomdebest ko boleh buat report ke tribunal, diorang memang buat kerja, tapi kene bayar RM5 la. Dan ko kena nyatakan tuntutan apa yang ko mau, contoh nak batalkan kontrak tanpa perlu bayar ke ataupun kalau ko dah lama guna tapi macam soyal service diorang ko bleh buat tuntutan mintak balik duit, tapi asas mesti kena kukuh la. contohnya RM68/bulan unlimited kan, tapi time kita nak guna je tak boleh. sepatutnya celcom kena reduce the bill deducting the faulty days. kalau diorang tak setuju ataupun main tarik tali je then buatlah report.

yeah makubex, thats what I just heard too. They have reduced it too RM6. Well it doesn’t meant a thang if they kept providing poor services.

    RM6 per day…
Good for occasional. If have to get connection 11 days that month, that’s 66. add another RM2, have it for whole month. now outstation, need connection almost everyday, RM68 is okaylah.

Bad connection sometimes. Really disturbing however. Already disconnected at this time of writing. will connect back.

What other options do we have. Pay-per-use again? Oh not again for sending 5mb files.

Donno is this my pc to phone or what. phone still display connection but globe at the pc network connection is gone. Running Vista.

JackBO, u should read my previous comments before subscribing to any of this telco-swindler’s package or promo. To buy a modem along with this package wasn’t a good idea at all, indeed, ud better afford a 3g phone from nokia@sonyE from RM350+. I bought my se k530i with only RM430. Can use it as modem as well as usit to browse web/check/pay bills via operamini.

don’t get too affected in any way bro
