A moment before he make his half volley that gave a Malaysian side something to cheer.

EVERYONE was taken by surprise when Malaysia Xl lost only by a single goal to Manchester United in their Asian Tour 2009 match at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.

We all thought the Red Devils would give the young Malaysian side a mauling as they did in 2001 (6–0). However, the plucky Malaysian Harimau Muda team showed that they can, indeed, hold their own against a team as big as United.

Wayne Rooney and Nani scored early in the first half for a 2–0 lead. United seemed enroute to an easy night with at least 60 per cent possession of the ball. However, kudos to the Malaysian midfielders, United had very few looks at the Malaysian goal after that.

Then, Mohd Amri Yahya struck towards the end of the first half. Chesting the ball from a goal kick, the Selangor captain, catching United’s keeper Edwin van der Sar off his line, sent a looping volley over the keeper’s head into the net. Then early in the second half, Amri struck again.

This time it was off a Ben Foster, who replaced van der Sar in goal, error. He misjudged a back pass and Amri pounced on the loose ball to find the net again. With the score 2-2, Michael Owen wrapped it up for United with a cool finish five minutes from time.

Overall I can say we did really improved. First game Man Utd are really not expecting a tough match from our side. But I can see from the 2nd game they really put much effort and all out on the game. Yet they only managed to score 2 goals due to miss communications between our defenders that caused 2 goals in 3 minutes. This is under 23 team man! Only 4 seniors were in the squad. There is a bright future for this team. Its up to K Rajagopal to mold this team as it should be. Kudos to Malaysian XI.

Malaysia Boleh and glory glory Man Utd. :-p
