KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 (Bernama) — Pre-paid mobile phone users may change their mobile phone service providers, if they wish, and still keep their mobile phone numbers from tomorrow, Friday Aug 29.

For the time being, this service – Mobility Number Portability (MNP) – will be available in the Klang Valley on a limited basis, said Minister of Energy, Water and Communications, Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor in a statement.

He said in two weeks’ time, post-paid users will also be able to enjoy the service.

The nationwide launch of the service will be in October, he said.

He said MNP takes away the inconvenience associated with switching service providers and consumers will no longer need to wory about losing their contacts when changing service providers.

He said service providers are allowed to charge up to RM25 each time a subscriber changes his/her service provider.

This will give mobile users choice and freedom to choose their service providers without the inconvenience of having to change their numbers, he said.

Those who wish to sign up for the service are advised to contact any of the mobile phone service providers — Celcom, Maxis, DiGi and U-Mobile, he said, adding that each of them will have five service centres all over the Klang Valley to entertain MNP requests.

He said initially, only individual account holders will be able to change their service providers, while business accounts may do so after the nationwide launch in October.

He said until the nationwide launch, each service provider will only be able to accept 100 requests per day.

However, additional requests will still be accepted but placed in queue for the following day, he said.

He advised pre-paid users to finish their pre-paid balances before they change their service providers as any remaining balances will not be refunded.

Mobile phone users are advised not to rush into porting but should first study the various packages being offered before choosing the new service provider of their choice, he said.

The MNP really help me to get out of the sucks service by Maxis. I've filed so many phone calls complaint during my years of using Maxis. After I port out to Digi, Maxis people wanna get me back. They told me I only filed 2 compaints on international roaming probs years ago..

OMG... Do u know how hardworking and co-operative I am trying to let them know their network got problems?? I always get miss calls messages, people can't get to me and tons of probs.. after i port out to Digi, the service is very good although people keeps getting my no. not in service kinda problem. When i called up Digi, they straight away reset my network, even changed my sim card with no cost.

At first, after port out to Digi, i still received Maxis promotions and advertisemen thru sms. When i called up Maxis, they told me I'm not with them anymore, so it's useless to call them to reset the port out system. What the heck?? Are they telling me that the MaxisGift sms(es) was sent out by Digi??? After few @#$#$% call. They finally listen to me. I dun receive any Maxis sms(es) anymore.

But still, I dunno why when people call me, they keep getting my number not in service message. It's cause me probs coz when my client can't contact me, I lost my business... Which is disastrous!!

Anyone facing the same prob??? Or any soltion?? suggestion??
